So. I hope this is a little myth breaker for you. No, you will not freeze and die in an Electric Car – you may run out of electricity, but hey, you could also run out of fuel!.

I commute a lot to Dartmouth and the one thing I always hated, was getting cold on the journey. That was until I bought an Electric Vehicle. This video is about staying warm in the Ferry queue to Dartmouth.

more info about my car and the charging facility:

So, the car I drive is a Volkswagen eGolf which has a battery size of circa 35kw with an engine circa 99kw – in old money that’s about 1/4 of your tank of fuel and 136 BHP engine. To be sure I was happy to change to this way of driving, I drove my old car (BMW X3) around for about 6 months on 1/4 tank of fuel to see how I got on with the so-called ‘Range Anxiety

Now, VW says i have about 144 real-world range. I can actually vouch for this if the weather is warm or I do 30-50mph mile runs as I can actually get to approx 150 miles. But if it’s winter, rubbish weather, or higher speeds, this will reduce to 110-120 miles. As with a petrol or diesel vehicle, it all depends on how you drive it.

Since I’ve owned our car I think we’ve had 2 or 3 occasions where we have broken a 100 miles of distance and had to use public charging facilities, and without doubt, our big bonus has been home charging and this is where Ohme and Octopus have been very helpful.
